Was mentioned in another forum I visit, decided to share it here.
For those of you non-Yanks or too young, it was a play on American soap operas.
There was a grandfather thinking WW2 was still on, a husband who believed he was abducted by aliens (and was), a son who was a ventriloquist and the family treated the dummy as a real member, a homosexual son in denial (Billy Crystal's first acting job), a black racist butler, and quite a few other interesting characters, complete with the cheating and murder and pregnancies and devil-babies and the like as well.

This was an insanely funny show circa late 1970's and still is to date.
Loads of vids and a few episodes on youtube, heres a clip that had Sprite lol:

Nice thing is it was a live audience, no canned laughter.

Unfortunately no. I was in the UK for 10 years (born in and now back in the States). But two of the funniest shows I've ever seen are 'Father Ted' and 'Shooting Stars' (aside from Python, of course).

, best bit.

For some classic 70's British comedy you should checkout "Fawlty Towers" ;)

Father Ted's good (and ofc Monty Python), but i never have been a fan of Shooting Stars tbh. Just don't tend to find them funny... For some others you could try The Office (the original!) & I'm Alan Partridge..I could keep listing a ton of them since we have so many good ones, but those are 2 of my favourites. :)

Ahhh, too true, so many. Alan Partridge was great and I think one of the all time funniest moments on TV is tied between Basil Fawlty beating the car with a stick, Del and Rodney running through town in their Batman and Robin outfits, and Ricky Gervais showing us how to dance properly.

Brit humor rocks and is soon copied by yanks to a lesser extent without the style, but there is some old school original US stuff that is as cool (thus the link).

Soap was one of certainly one of the funnest shows on American TV at the time. Of course I watched it when it was airing originally.

And frankly, I think one of hte funnest episodes in Fawlty Towers was the one with the germans.

Yeah ^^
I linked a youtube clip to that one above :D

I shall look out for Soap, not even heard of it before never mind watched it but it certainly looks very funny from those clips :). Then again I don't really watch any American comedy so that'll be why, besides Everybody loves Raymond & The King of Queens which that is, love those.

To be fair MS you are probably on the young side for when
Soap originally aired in the UK.
I can remember it, as I was given special dispensation off the parents
to stay up and watch it.
Benson the Butler just made the show for me.

And with regards to British humour please do not forget
another classic pairing.
