New Killboard Now Available

http://www.shatteredstar.org/groups/eve/ :)

I'm happy to announce that we've finally been able to fulfill a long standing request of the EvE Online group by setting up an in-house Killboard for you - finally made possible thanks to our recent change in server and DBMS.

Myself and MS have put together a skin for it, and Oz has helpfully provided us with the means to get the data imported. Thanks to both MS and Oz respectively for that! I have setup a cron job to perform this data import process hourly - so any kills you rack up should pull through at the top of each hour.

Oz explained to me that there are kills that won't automatically pull through as the mails will be sent to other corporations, and that you need to add those kills manually. The board provides a page for this purpose, but I have set a password on the process so that not just anyone can drop by and play with it! I have given this password to Oz, so if you feel you should have access to do this then please see him. The password will not be being posted publically for obvious reasons.

That having been said, I hope you all enjoy your new killboard :) Let me know if you should have any problems/issues with it, and I'll do my best to sort them out asap!

It looks amazing. This and the TOR site have definitely raised the bar for SSX design. I like the new general theme that you've centered both around.

Again, thanks to Anny and MS for all the work they did getting this to look as good as it does. I have started the management portion of the board and it should be populating from all the SS-X related kills and losses back thru 2006. I am learning my way around the User Interface to ensure that we have a well maintained kill/loss log for our group. The Griefwatch board will remain active for the remainder of the time I paid for it, but definately shifting to this board as the EvE primary KB.

I didn't realise you'd be populating it all the way back to 2006 - really pleased that we're going to be able to hold so much history on it.

Again, glad you like it too :)

We had very little PvP activity back then. Some low security areas we operated a station in had some activity, figured we could capture it all and go with it. :)

This and the TOR site are probably my best template designs yet I'd say, Anny was able to put them together perfectly so they're exactly how they were imagined. Very pleased with the outcome so I'm glad you guys are more than happy with it too.
Surprising to see that you can backlog the killboard with data going back 5 years, that is pretty neat I must say :thumb:

I had access to the old kill logs from previous killboards on other corporations/alliances that we were "friends" with. So all that data was pre-populated in the griefwatch board that I was paying for. I then went and used the feed settings and simply pulled data from previous years from that board and our current alliance. I am having a slight issue with the personal points showing wrong. If you go to the Top Scorers stats page the numbers are way different than if you go to the individual piltos page (For Example mine are 30498 on the top scorers page but only 321 if you look at my individual stats page). I will be doing some research on this as I get time, meanwhile bear with me as I try to get used to the new board. There may be other mods that we need to update or install that I am not aware of yet, I will inform Anny if any updates are required or if its simply a settings issue that I can take care of.

Yeah, just let me know. I'll be happy to help with it if you need anything more setting up.

Did you get the Griefwatch board to import then? I tried a couple of times in an attempt to test data population, but kept getting invalid XML errors. Guess I was doing it wrong :) That's the problem trying to test something when you don't play the game it relies upon :)

EDIT - Oz, your Killpoints issue should now be sorted. You needed to clear the Kill Summary Cache function to force it to recalculate the values (seems to be a bug with the Killboard release where it does not update those cached values - source: http://eve-id.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=506&t=18153).

I'll look into seeing if I can turn caching of those values off whilst leaving caching on in a more general sense when I get time later this week. I'll get back to you when I've looked into it :)

FanFreakingTastic :) I was hoping we'd be able to get a KB set up after we migrated. Thanks!

This wizardry is impressive, and is most helpful.

Following a request from winbrian, I've updated the killboard today to the latest major version to build in support for Crucible. This required a complete replacement of many core function files, so please let me know if anyone encounters anything looking/behaving oddly and I'll take a look (from the few tests I've performed though, everything seems ok).

Also, I want to let it be known that I have disabled caching to the extent that the Killboard will allow me to do so. This is a deliberate choice I have made, since during the update process I realised caching was creating a SIGNFICANT mess with regards to files (and lack of cleanup) on the server - in excess of 961 folders each containing more than 8 cached files in them. This will not be being turned back on, as it was affecting server performance in several ways. I don't believe users will notice any difference, but I felt you should know anyway :)

Thanks again Anny, as for the caching, you are the server guru, whatever you say goes in my book.

Never really left, just needed a hiatus. When a game starts to feel like a job, its time to find another outlet, this time it was world of tanks. Got up to tier 10 heavy, maxed out the USA tree except for the final artillary (still in progress) but yeah, Eve is my weakness and I will always be back hehe.

Killboard updated again at win's prompting. I had to do the changed file upload manually though, as there appears to be a permissions issue that is blocking auto-update from working (which I'll investigate hopefully this weekend).

Everything looks ok from my quick tests, but as ever just slap me around if something looks out of place and/or when you want other updates applying :)

Thank You again Anny, for your quick response to arising issues. Everytime CCP releases a patch that changes ships or modules or adds content I fear we will have to update.

That's fine, and to be expected. Don't worry about that - I'm here to be prodded when needed :)

I won't post about it every time, just did this time since I wasn't able to run the included auto-updater as I would have liked to. So if something went wrong, people knew what the cause may be.

Hey Anubis, Is it possible that our kill board is behind on some updates?

Are you expecting to see kills that aren't appearing there? It's an automated process, so it *should* be right.

If you can give me some dates though, and info about other killboards they are appearing on if possible, then I'll look into it :)

I get
Error: Item not found. The text leading to this error was: "Nova Heavy Assault Missile"
When I tried to post an entry.

There have been changes to item names as well as the addition of new ships and items over the last few patches, but it seems the board is not reflecting this. Not sure if an update is required to the database. Or whatever. Because I've no clue how this is set up.

In Win's case, Nova Heavy Assault Missiles used to go by another name several game patches ago. I've run into this error with other items when I've tried to submit killmails to our board. Not sure what is required to resolve the discrepancy that's causing errors.

Riiiight. Item name changes makes sense - I would expect errors like that if the names have become out of date. Yes, there should be a new database patch for it that I'll need to apply.

I'll take a look for you this weekend if that's ok. It should backfill any missing kills when updated, so it should bring itself back into line with reality too :)
