I decided to have a shot at making a custom background for my NXE dashboard today, i've only just realised you could heh.
Unfortunately i don't think it's possible to change the colour/effect of the bottom grey area when using your own image (hopefully they'll change that..) but that said i still think it turned out pretty well so i decided to share it with the rest of you. Feel free to use it!

Here's a preview of what it looks like on my Samsung:

To get it on your console just put this image on a USB flash drive, disk or steam it to your console from your PC. Then go to My Xbox > Picture Library > Find and highlight the image and press "Y" to Apply as Background.

[Edit - Added some clearer images 08/01/09]
Enjoy! :)

Wow, I did not know that was even possibly. Looks great, fantastic to make it really "Our Group" in a logo-istic sense.

Thanks for sharing this mate, tis my permanent backdrop from now on. Great job.

Annoying how you can now only use half of the screen, isn't it?

Cheers for that, MS - all the wallpapers I had on the old dash look crap now... including proper themes!

Yea eh, I would be pretty pissed if I had purchased a bunch of themes over the years considering they are all pretty much usless. MS screwed the ones that did however.

Which is funny since on the PS3 you can totally upload your images and make your own themes... AND THEY ARE FREE!!! Go figure...

I've just noticed tonight that on some sections of the dashboard (like installing a game) the grey area at the bottom actually disappears so you're able to see the entire background image. On the image i uploaded before i had blurred out the bottom half of it as i thought only the top part would be visible..
Soo, i've updated the link above to point to the updated version for those of you that want it. This one will fill the entire screen with stars etc for when the grey part isn't there. (Old / New)

I did see an option to add a picture to your message but i think that might only be with the vision camera. Either way it said that features only available to gold subscribers, i'm silver atm.

A way to get around that is to upload said image to a flash drive or burn it to a cd and put it on your HDD. I have done so with many an image. I am just miffed that I can't customize my dashboard like I used to. I mean if I could change my "ground" image to use whatever I wanted, it would be nice. And I am still befuddled on why people are still putting out basic themes when it's basically a useless gesture. (Unless somehow people revert back to the old system...)

That's a really great piece of work, MS! I shall be using that background for a long time to come. Thanks! :thumb:
