I do not intend to flame with my comments, so please keep an open mind when reading them. I might revisit the game in a year or two.

I do not / did not have game crashes or performance issues, but some very basic things keep me from sticking with the game. Frankly, AoC feels like beta or a free2play game to me. (I was there when EQ2, WoW, Lineage 2, and LoTRO launched so I am not flaming but I am making some comparisons since I beta'd those 4 games pre-launch.)

1. Skills. Climbing is the only skill that I can see working. But honestly, why do I need 600+ climbing for end game stuff? I tested them all: +400, +1, +10, 0, mana regen, health regen, concentration, running, etc. Resting without skills is adequate, but who wants to rest in a game? How about some serious in-combat regens and less skill points to divi? Yes, feats and items provide natural regens. I got a message once saying, You do not have enough concentration to cast the spell when it was at zero, so maybe that is important? I could not tell a difference between 10 Concentration and 390 Concentration.

2. Feats. These work well. Instead of adding to the creative attack styles, they narrow down the attacks or buffs that I choose to use in combat (if I choose to play wisely instead stylishly). Not so much for my melee characters, but they definitely limit the smart play for my casters which have become 2-key attack specialists.

3. Combos. While they keep my melee classes from becoming 2-key mashers (I suppose I could macro my melees), the final execution is lacking flow(?) and can be easily exploited. No combos for the casters, but they do not really need the extra umph anyway. (Uber caster secret > KITE unless one is a POM then one has KITE plus a huge knock-down.)

4. Epic vs. Normal. Forced Epic zones... Black Castle, Sanctum, and now the fun begins? Epic = normal mob with more HPs, harder to kill, and same xp / drops as normal mob. Needs some serious tweaking.

5. PVP. Kite, kite, kite, kite, kite. We should kite the enemy :)

6. Items. Example, Level 40 Heavy Armour +Mana, +Natural Mana Regen, and +4.5 Wisdom. For my guardian? LOL! Its the best I have found for him so far! I would expect the items to improve over the next 6 months after the basic game-play issues are resolved.

7. UI. Free2Play replica of some very cheap (ie., free) games?

8. Pets. Recalling pets after every zone is how to say nicely? FREAKING ANNOYING! My Necromancer went on strike after he had 6 pets to recall with each zone (and we zone a lot while playing). My Demos pet who did nothing but add to the teams mana pool and make orgasmic sex noises, finally called it quits after the last patch silenced his master from recalling him immediately.

9. Buffs, Potions, and Food. Some buffs are as (annoying) as the pets in that I have to recast them after every zone. On one of the updates, Funcom announced that my POM would now have a 4 hour buff instead of the typical 1 hour. Yay me! Wait I still have to rebuff the other 2 that I use every hour so rebuffing my 4 hour buff at the same time is no issue. What did I gain by a 4 hour buff? In fact, I have developed the habit of zoning rebuffing regardless of time left on the buff. But that is now a mute point since the forced silence after zoning. More waiting. BTW, food and potions can be perma-bugged! Thats why I have included them here. Personally, I only use food and potions if I have them from a recent drop. Otherwise, I vendor trash them to free a bag slot.

10. Memory Leak. Finally, I have something not-so-petty to discuss? The most popular thread on the AOC Forums is about the memory leak. The last time I looked at it, it had 160K hits and over 2,000 replies (now at 177K with 2,250 replies just checked for grins). http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=29257 I am running Vista 64-bit and have had no issues with the leak. Wulfy's 32-bit setup (nearly identical to my own except the 32-bit OS) crashed constantly when she zoned. Once we forced 3GB RAM with dcedit.exe, magically, her problem ended for good. This problem is no respecter of persons XP or Vista. If you got it, then you got it. If you dont have it, woot!

These are all basic things that I suspect will be fixed within the next year. I am not slamming the game, but I prefer to wait on the game rather pay to ride the beta wave. In the meantime, I am heading back to either EQ2 or Vanguard. Maybe at the end of the day, I am still an EverCrack Addict!?

Happy Hunting Friends! :thumb: :)
