Yeah I got the same thing. I doubt that they are transferable to other players, but I still have the game installed so when it goes F2P and if I can buy something BOE I'll gift it to anybody still playing.

I'm not. I've actually gone back to sorta playing Anarchy Online. At least when I'm not playing/installing/uninstalling one of the multitude of other games I own.

For my sins I'm still subscribed, as its my only pay to play game atm.
But not actually played since my PC has been repaired.

I do really miss playing with the group and part of me still wants to see some more of the new content BioWare had planned for the game but I have no real desire to go back atm. Their free-to-play model looked insanely restricting and limited when compared to what other f2p games out there offer, even though they have eased up on those a bit since I posted the list. For the same reason it's hard for me to justify going back to a paid subscription again too when games like GW2 offer so much more and yet have no subscription to speak of. Just doesn't seem worth it sadly.

So i went ahead and downloaded all the patched and logged in just to see what the FTP version was like. I logged out after about 2 minutes. You can't really do anything unless you subscribe. I have no access to the guild anymore for some reason either. It says i'm not in one. you probably have to subscribe to be in one. I couldn't even use a title i earned in my name without subscribing or buying coins. Unless i hear about some major changes in the not to distant future i am done with swtor. It was fun while it lasted anyway.

This. Very true, but sadly like all good things it looks like it's coming to an end.

And by that I mean the game as well as the group. If the F2P option is really that limiting, all they're doing is killing off its second chance...

I agree Anny, LOTRO and STO seem to have a better F2P system.
I popped into STO to see how the game was now it has settled into the Perfect World F2P and was pleasantly surprised on the number of players.
Their RMT store has additional ships etc, which you can splash your cash on or actually purchse tokens from an ingame resource.
So basically if you play you can still have the benefits of new ships without spending real cash.
Seems to have given them a second wind.

TOR I think have completely missed out, an opportunity to revitalise the player base.

How is STO these days btw Ash, if you've played recently?

It didn't impress me too much at launch (from the outside looking in), but it was always an MMO I wanted to try. If it's good, maybe I'll take a look since it's F2P...

Hit the 1000 day veteran reward so popped in to try out the reward ship.

Perfect World have changed some things around so you don't necessarily specilaise in a single ship type i.e. cruiser/ science/ escort.
The Duty Officer system has been introduced, where you send minor npcs off on away missions etc to gain rewards, still getting to grips with it.
Quest system has had an overall and also with the inclusion of player made quests (The Foundry)
As i said above, the fact that you can trade ingame resource for RMT tokens is a great idea.
I still prefer space combat over the ground game, but the ground game has improved no longer just run and shoot,
some puzzle elements have now been included.

I'm not sure what restrictions are on the F2P account, probably number of character/ ship slots, restrictions on bank balance etc.

But as it is now free I would strongly suggest you have a dabble, if nothing else for the music and Leonard Nimoy introduction.

I actually reinstalled STO maybe 2-3 months back, I had only tried it out at launch before.

I must say I did have a lot of fun, however it does get very repetitive hence the reason I stopped. This applies especially to the dynamic missions (cant think of the official name) which basically have a few mission variants and then its just put into a random map. In a way its nice they did it, the same as the AO mission system, it does add a big chunk of gameplay and its basically completely optional but its just an exaggerated form of the actual main mission gameplay.

But for me whether it was ship or ground combat I ended up at the point a simple macro could have played for me, apart from choosing which way to point it was just a case of cycling through my skills as they recharged.

I still strongly encourage people to pick it up for a go though, let me stress I really did have fun for a good amount of time. The changes they have made all seem to be improvements to me, the duty system especially is a very nice extra. You pick up duty officers as mission rewards and then send them out to do missions that change overtime and depending on which sector you are in. Different missions need different officers to do and they all have traits as well that can increase or decrease the missions success rate. Some are simple one shot missions, others chain for a few and some are trade missions. Really its quite nicely done considering its just a small extra that you quickly check easily during travel or slight downtime in a mission.

End of the day you get to go round flying a spaceship launching photon torpedoes and blasting people with phasers, of course its going to be fun. Just dont expect it to last.

Hmmm, interesting. Didn't think you'd give such positive reviews! Thanks for your thoughts both of you.

I think maybe I'll grab the client this weekend and give it a go, if I have time. Does no harm, and I really did always want to play it :)

Ok, I've been playing STO for 2-3 weeks now. Whilst it isn't the best Trek game I've ever played (that title goes to Elite Force, with both Armada games in second place), it is decent :)

Not sure how long I'll keep playing for, but for now I'm just working my way through the mission chains. Are either of you still playing?

Nah I played it for a week or two then stopped, got a fair way along in the game though, reasonable tier ship with more or less all the crew. But by that point as I said above it became a case of just pointing and then pressing the skills one after the other. Just wasnt enough depth there to keep me interested.

Its a free game from which I got many hours of enjoyment from though, not going to bitch and moan to much.

I tend to pop in now and again for light relief, but not consistent enough to remember what i was supposed to be doing,
so spend most of my time scratching my head.
