It has once again been far too long since we had one of these - sentiments I seem to express every time we have one. Regardless, time for everyone to snap pics of their desktop for the delight of others. Show off your current background choice

Haven't had one of these threads in a couple of years ^^

(Made the menu visible just to show where I keep all my PC game shortcuts. Quick and easy access without them cluttering my entire desktop. Pin all my main programs to the taskbar too (<3 Win7). Still gets a little messy from time to time but not as much as it used to.)

Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Still images are no longer sufficient.
Unfortunately youtube castrates 1080 videos in quality by quite a bit, so you'll just have to imagine it being a lot smoother and having a higher color depth.

Wow, yours looks....futuristic BD. Never seen a desktop like that. Looks really good, but doesn't it get distracting, much like moving GIFs do on forums?

Little bit busy for me with all the temp windows open but it does look very cool. Especially with the video background
(For anyone interested. Ava & I use this app for handling our game shortcuts like shown in my post above. Has been very useful.)

The animated wallpaper isn't distracting at all. It's a fairly soothing effect.
It actually looks somewhat ugly in the video, because of the youtube compression (you can see the nosedive in quality on the text and the calendar dates - and can compare them with your text), but it's actually much better.
As far as the rest of it goes, much of the functions are very useful. For example, in the upper left corner are the CPU threads and their activity, which is good to keep an eye on during video conversion or encoding. Same for the RAM and the swap file size, bandwidth, disk use, etc.
Satellite weather map is pretty nice as well (and updates constantly), as I can see the cold fronts coming and going, as well as any precipitation.

Not much point for me to post a screen shot with a plain blue background... can't stand pictures on a desktop at all. I'd rather see the icons. At work, it's simply a black background on my desktop.Anubis wrote:I know there are more than 4 of us here Come on people, screenies please!
<SSX-Anubis> Did you see the E3 trailer for Hot Pursuit btw?

aww, what's with all the plain backgrounds? You guys are no fun
Updated mine for the time being, AC2 was sooo gooood. Probably switch it back to Mad Men when I find a better 1080 background I really like. Or maybe the Boardwalk Empire one I have lined up for when Sky Atlantic air that next week, if it turns out to be as good as it looks ofc...
I can go months without changing my desktop sometimes but a lot of the time I like to keep them relevant to something I'm currently watching (or playing) and which I've found especially good, or something I'm really anticipating. I get bored of them otherwise unless it's something particularly awesome heh.

4 icons on my DT makes me feel clunky sometimes. Yours would drive me to insanity in mere seconds.Mechanus wrote:My home desktop

Where is the Taskbar? The lack of any stable foundation to the desktop makes me fear for the future. Or for the past. Or for my personal future relying heavily on the past. Seriously though, looks goodMechanus wrote:So here's my new desktop for my new machine:

I have my taskbar set to auto-hide so it keeps the desktop clean like you see it above. I've been using auto-hide ever since I can remember. If you look at my other desktop pic you'll see the same thing.Anubis wrote:Where is the Taskbar? The lack of any stable foundation to the desktop makes me fear for the future. Or for the past.
