If you haven't seen Mai Hime, take a knife and jam it into your eye. Then see Mai Hime.
Then watch Mai Otome.

I've been looking at this series off an on, havent been sure what to make of it. With your recomendation I suppose I could get around to checking it out. Both Mai Hime and Mai Otome, that is.
Although your proposal that people should watch it with a knife protruding from the bloody pulp that is the sticky remains of an eyeball... kinda puts me off I'll think about it

Isn't Otome a completely different story? Just reusing the character's looks etc?
The first one was really good, though it had the *spoiler censored* ending ever.
If you are interested, marathon the whole Mai Hime if possible
I'm waiting for Otome to progress maybe half way before starting it.

Otome is for the smart people who will figure out that this is either a prequel or if you're smarter - a sequel to Mai Hime.
Characters aren't "re-used" - they're similar for a very distinct purpose.

I just took a knife and jammed it into my eye, as per instructions. I am now screaming in agony, and half blind. <--without the smile part.
