- About SimCity
SimCity is a city-building simulation game developed by Maxis, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts. Released for PC in early March 2013, it is the first major installment in the SimCity series since the release of SimCity 4 a decade prior. A Mac version is scheduled for release on June 11th 2013.
Players can create a settlement that can grow into a city by zoning land for commercial, industrial, or residential development, as well as building and maintaining public services, transport and utilities. SimCity utilizes a new engine called GlassBox, allowing for more detailed simulation than previous games. Everything you see is simulated - from city-wide systems all the way down to the individual Sims in your city.

For the first time, players also have the ability to create cities based on certain specializations such as Mining, Tourism, Electronics, Education and more. Each influencing the look, feel and personality of your city and some of these produce different resources which can then either be sold, used locally within your city, traded with other players, or used to build a Great Works (see below). You can also mix specializations if you're up to the challenge or share these out with other players within your multi-city region (see below too).

- Multiplayer
This version of SimCity is also the first to feature online multiplayer/co-operative play, allowing players to create and manage their own cities within the same region(s) as each other. Each region can currently house anywhere from 2 to 16 cities and each of these can be owned by a different player. This being said, regions can be set to either private or public upon creation. Public regions will appear in the lobby for everyone and as long as there are empty city plots available anybody is free to claim one of those. Private regions however are just that. These can be played between friends (hidden and invite only) or kept completely private for solo play instead if you wish to play alone.
It is worth mentioning here that SimCity requires players to be logged into EA's Origin service in order to play the game whether you are playing solo or with other people. Therefore an Origin account and both the use of that and an active internet connection are required to play this game.

- Great Works
Each region now has what we call a Great Works (larger regions can have up to 4). These are massive building projects which can be constructed to help benefit everyone in the region and each player can help towards building them. 2 of the 4 current Great Works are a huge Arcology, which basically serves as a massive futuristic housing plot which sends workers, shoppers and students to your cities to fill up empty placements, and a Solar Farm which provides the surrounding cities with free, green power.
To construct these, the city specializations (as mentioned above) and other servics are brought into play. The Arcology for example requires 2,800 tons of Metal, 1,000 tons of Alloy and 60,000 creates of TVs. Recycling is one way to collect the metal and alloy needed for this construction (this gives plastics too) as well as mining them, and specializing in the Electronics business is the way to go for the production of TVs. Unless of course you wish to import from the Global Market via a Trade Depot or Trade Port, which serves as a global market for the buying and selling of the games resources between players.

"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
